Edgar Castelan: The Next Generation of Leadership for Jurupa Valley
Edgar Castelan is a proud son of the Glen Avon neighborhood who cares about making Jurupa Valley better and has spent the last six years serving his community to bring much needed resources to improve our recreation areas that families use every single day.
Edgar is a product of our Jurupa Valley schools, attending Granite Hill Elementary, Jurupa Middle School, and after graduating from Patriot High School, chose to stay close to home for his higher education. Edgar earned both his Bachelor’s in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of California, Riverside. His education gave him the skills to navigate government budgets, understand complex policy, and move projects from concept to completion.
Since then, Edgar served as a legislative staffer to State Senator Connie Leyva and State Senator Richard Roth, acting as the crucial bridge between state government and our local communities. Now, he continues to serve as a field legislative representative in Riverside and brings that same dedication to service to Jurupa Valley.
Delivering Results as Your Park Director
Since being sworn in as a Jurupa Area Recreation and Park District Director in 2020, Edgar has turned vision into reality. While others promised to improve our quality of life, Edgar delivered:
- Investing in Our Community: Edgar oversaw the renovation of the Jurupa Community Center, equestrian arenas, and made our parks more inclusive by promoting programming and activities in dual-language for our Spanish-speaking residents.
- Expanding Green Spaces: He spearheaded the acquisition of the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center, home of Eddy the Mammoth, ensuring this community treasure remains public. He also pushed to acquire the land for many new parks, including the new 37th St. park in Rubidoux.
- Honoring Our Heroes: He collaborated to complete the rebuild of a new and improved Veterans Memorial Wall, ensuring our local heroes are never forgotten.
